This week-end was fabulous. It started out with me being REALLY tired and not overly excited about going out at all. It all started with Kate, Stu and I attending Ann's play. (Kate's sister) Ann and two of her friends started a children's theatre group called Tinderbox Theatre. This was their first performance. The name of the show is Once Upon a Turnip. It was a combination of puppets and acting and it was fabulous! The puppets were amazing! Nice work Ann!
After the play was over Kate, Stu and I went on a mission to find the perfect housewarming present for Lisa and Joe. We found a kitchen store in a tiny mall and picked out a marble lazy susan, mortar and pestle and a pepper mill. That was easy compared to finding the card and wrapping!
Kate and I went next door to the Shoppers Drug Mart and realized we must be in the Jewish end of town because there were tons of Jewish themed cards but no simple blank ones or congratulatory ones! We thought of buying some other card and scratching out the words but thought that was too tacky even for us! We found a congratulatory card which wasn't so bad but still wasn't perfect.
The only gift bag they had that wasn't birthday or wedding themed had Transformers on it. YES in fact it was the 80s toy/tv show fad. However upon much searching we couldn't find ANY tissue paper. All they had were tons of streamers. I was about to give up and just grab a roll of streamers when I discovered 1 lonely package of tissue paper hiding behing the streamers. Only problem is that it's silver snowflake tissue paper. Well on the bright side the gift bag was black and the silver went nice with it!
Joe and Lisa's new house is in Etobicoke and it's fabulous. It's three floors, 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The backyard has a pear tree, apple tree and cherry tree as well as a wine grape vine. There was tons of food! Burgers both veggie and beef, pasta salad and tomato salad. There were three different types of pie and ice cream!
Everyone just chatted leisurely till after dinner when the Jam session began. The boys discovered Joe's bass, guitar, drum kit, keyboard and miscellaneous percussion collection. Everyone just grabbed something and played. We were treated to renditions of Neil Young's Rocking in a Free World, Gordon Lightfoot's Sundown, Don MacLean's American Pie, Semisonic's Closing Time, CCR's Down on the Corner, Twisted Sister's We're Not Gonna Take it and Guns n Roses Patience.
I can't play any instruments so I used the tambourine. It was just fun to listen even if you weren't playing. There is just something about live music. The Jam session lasted till midnight at which point the primary singer lost his voice and my ride wanted to head out.
I like nights like this.
